Network Routers

A network router is a device that is used mainly for networking. A network router’s hardware components, as well as the various of software that it uses, were created specifically for the purpose of forwarding and routing data and information. Network routers are commonly used on the Internet, where there is infinite amounts of information that require directing and redirecting to many different paths using routers.

What routers typically do is connect a couple of logical subnets that sometimes do not map one to one straight to the physical interfaces of the router. Network routers function and operate in two different types of planes. The first plane is known as the control plane, which allows the router to understand the outgoing interface that can be the most relevant to the task of forwarding packets to different destinations. The other plane used is known as the forwarding plane. The forwarding plane can be credited for the actual actions that send packets of information on a logical interface towards an outbound logical interface.

Network routers are very useful for connections within a private network, such as an office or a school. In such cases, the transferring of information becomes much faster and less troubling, plus the security of the connections ensure privacy.
